GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - Cabela's Incorporated has announced plans to build a store in Kent County.

24 Hour News 8 has confirmed the 88,000-square foot store will be located at the former X-Rite site at 44th Street and Ivanrest Avenue.

Construction will begin this summer and anticipated to open in spring 2013, according to a news release.

This will be Cabela's second retail store in Michigan, joining the Dundee location.

This is a smaller size store, but I don't care. This is awesome. They were gonna build one in Walker a couple years ago, but Walker wouldn't give them a bunch of concessions and utility upgrades. This site is ready to build.

It will be a great thing since the 44th St corridor is already set up for heavy retail traffic; Alpine would have been a nightmare and is really dated. I really hope they are able to find some seasoned/experienced help for their technical areas. Getting tired of walking into gunshops with unknowledgeable staff or being told to come back and speak with "?".

Well, that's an even longer drive for me than Dundee.

Ha...don't be surprised if you find the gun staff to be less than true experts. My friend works in Dundee. He's dumber than a box of rocks.

I basically never expect that someone behind the gun counter really knows what they are talking about. I educate myself before I purchase anything. I just want them to ring it up, hopefully they can handle that.

The store in Hammond, IN is a shorter drive for me than both of them.

They seem to have a great archery staff in Dundee - very knowledgeable and all active hunters that I have dealt with. I haven't done much firearm shopping at Cabela's, just the occasional ammo purchase when it's on sale or I have a coupon or gift card.

I don't even think they have very good prices, but they seem to have everything, and I usually make a day of it.

I've had pretty good luck there with ammo prices - it only sucks when you're stuck in the 80/94 traffic or have to stop and get petrol in Gary.

Pretty small footprint. Interested in seeing what they'll carry & what they don't. Just got back from the Cabela's in Dundee, my boy's love the place, and spent a total of $14 there. I can find what I want cheaper elsewhere, but I like taking the boys there & Grandville is a heck of a lot closer than Dundee & Hammond so it's a win.

Hopefully this will put the Grandville Gander Mtn out of business... I hate Gander Mtn.

Yeah, it gets pretty hairy over there.

+1 for me too. But then me and Moondog live close to the Indiana/Michigan line

68 miles to the Hammond store.

Hope it works out for you. Have been going to Cabela's less and less. Maybe I'm just too old and have accumulated more than enough shit or whatever. Most of my purchasing now is aimed more to picking up ammo when I think of it.

Don't have a fort, but I have enough to fend off the hordes for a while. Then my neighbors can pick up the slack. From what I've been able to learn, don't drive down our street thinking it's going to be a cake walk. Heck, the hordes may never even make it to my place before they're blasted into pieces.
