At the gun show i saw a single shot 50BMG bolt action on AR lower.
i even asked a guy there and he said that it was ar lower.
i was wondering if they make bolt action uppers in .308 for AR lowers or i don't make any sense?

I hope that doesn't exist. Get a .308 bolt action or a .308 pattern AR. A bolt-action upper on an AR lower makes no sense. I see .50BMG uppers as a small exception to that, but they're still not the route I would take with a .50.

Makes perfect sense to me, so you're not alone.

Single shot or side-feed mags, I'd buy one. .308, 30-06, or .300/.338 WinMag, I'm not picky. Switch-barrel capability (ala Savage) would be even better.

AR ergos, your own drop-in trigger set the way you like it, and a unique rifle. What's not to love?

Best,
JBR

Bohica Arms 50 BMG or 416 Barrett seems a decent value with uppers starting at $1300. Don't think i have seen anything similar in 308.

Look at BR Armament, they have them. They are under their Long Range upper category.

Not exactly the same, but couldn't you just get a AR308 side charging upper and not hook up the gas system? I think I've heard of people doing this with the 223 platform.

Exactly. Run a tap and set screw into the gas tube opening in the gas block.

or get one of the noveske switchblocks for the 308's that is coming, then you have the best of both worlds.
This 308 gets shot more with the gas turned off then on

You can do the same thing with a LWRCi REPR –– the rifle is side-charging, and the forward gas adjustment knob allows you to turn off the gas completely. The big benefit of the side charging handle is that you can operate the rifle without breaking cheekweld.

I haven't seen a .308 bolt action, but I have seen a .308 BELT FED upper for the AR-15.

I think I did too :) not sure if it was 308 or 223 but it took him 8 years to get it. I thought that was awesome! Do you have a link to that upper or maybe forum post?

Nope the .308 upper was out LONG before the Shrike was made. I used to have a post on it at www.MD-AR15.com before MSN shut down the websites there.

It was built (along with an 8mm version) here in MD. Basically it was a MG34 that used the AR-15 lower as a 'trigger pack'. BTW the belt fed upper was considered a gun in it's own right and you needed a 4473 to purchase it.

No because the upper for a .308 upper is longer than the AR-15 lower.

Shrikes are made of 'unobtanium'. LONG history there. Guys who put down huge deposits, and are still waiting. There is only 1 person on this site that I've seen get one (SteyrAUG) and it took him something like 8 years.

If you want to get on the list visit their site: http://www.aresdefense.com/ Be prepared to spend thousands of $$.

You're right, sorry, it was implied that would be on a 308 lower as well.
