How light do you want to go? If you want a super light, you're going to have to build it. I have the lightest AR that I've ever heard of, as it sits right now it weighs in at exactly 4 pounds. I can still shave a couple ounces off of it, but without some radical surgery I couldn't lose much. I've got a few parts gathered for the next one, and a few plans for it, I'm hoping to get in at 3.5 lbs or less with it.

Wow! 4 lbs. I'm impressed. How's it shoot? What are the specs? How long is the barrel? Shaved carrier? With or without mag? Sounds like a nice piece. Seen a few right at 5 lbs with Cav arms lower and a Lancer mag and own a couple just under 6 lbs with aluminum mag and sling. As stated Colt 6520 is pretty light out the box for around $900 and a diet wouldn't be too hard. Lighter stock and BCG would be easy enough to save a few oz's but most don't modify Colt's for value reasons.

Have also built carbines with a BM SLW barrel, flat top and A-2 lower with a shaved A-1 stock and lightened carbine HG's but with 13 oz.glass and RRA mount it's right at 7 lbs including empty mag and homebrewed sling. Might be able to get away with plastic/composite buffer tube and a modified buffer to save a little weight also. Would probably need a little cycle testing to get it dependable though.
